Called the 'City of Sails' due to the large number of yachts anchored in Waitemata Harbour, Auckland is the largest city of both New Zealand and Polynesia. Built on the Auckland Volcanic Field featuring about 48 extinct volcanoes, this city truly offers a blast!
Auckland is a real cultural mix with strong Asian, European, Maori and Polynesian influences, celebrated in frequent festivals and sporting events. Some examples of these cultures can be seen at the Auckland War Memorial Museum, one of the best in New Zealand. For more, try the upmarket dining of the Viaduct Harbour.
Another must-see is the tallest free-standing tower in the Southern Hemisphere, the Sky Tower. If you’re feeling up to the challenge, you can even perform the Sky Jump, a controlled base jump from 192 metres!
Climbing the volcanic cones as well as the stunning Auckland Harbour Bridge will provide unforgettable, panoramic views of the city’s skyline. For a different perspective, why not try a cruise or sea kayaking?

Make the effort and walk down to the Viaduct area..this place is pumping...loads of choices for food and drink..you can sit and people watch, admire the beautiful yachts, enjoy the friendly atmosphere...awesome buzzy vibe. If you don't feel like walking back to your hotel? there are plenty of taxis around....another tip, if you aren't going far, ask the taxi driver to take you back to your hotel for XXXX (whatever you feel like offering)..most of them will probably happily oblige to have some fare is better than no fare! There are so many road works in Auckland that paying full fare by taxis can be expensive, always try and barter the price before you get in.

Absolutely beautiful city, terrain, food selection and BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE. Downtown Auckland may be hard to travel for persons with mobility issues due to steep and hilly terrain. You can still see a lot of the land marks, have a car service drop u off directly in front. If you want to see the majesty of the land, get out of the city and canvas the surrounding countrysides or hop on the ferry. I’ll be back to connect how city busses and other transportation/ferry can connect you to other places. Definitely bringing my family back. Something for everyone. Definitely want to see Rotorua and different foods. I loved everything about this place and as a solo traveler, I felt safe.

I'm not normally much of a city guy, but Aukland was a really great place to explore. It had that feel of a city that didn't know it's a city. Not a huge amount of chains and a lot more smaller businesses. Having said that if you want some serious shopping there were plenty of the bigger boutiques too. The touristy stuff was actually really good and not too expensive, things like the Skytower and the ferries to the other islands.

The CBD area has a lot to walk too.
The CBD area has a lot to walk too. The dinner at the orbit in skytower was very good. The wine tour to Waiheke was lovely! Do note the ferry ride is $55 return if you book online.
Piha black Sand Beach is about 50 mins from Auckland. I would suggest a stop off at the Arataki visitor centre before heading to Piha. I would also suggest going to the Mercer bay Loop. It is a bit of a steep walk, but can be done within an hour. Just make sure you do the loop and start where the marker is. The walk up the other way is not as bad as going down.
The hop on hop off bus was helpful. I also suggest a stroll up Mount Eden. You get beautiful views of Auckland.

Auckland was clean and felt safe but it wasn't terribly exciting. It's a good place to fly into / out of but only worth a day or two on its own. Around 5 -6pm and most places are closed. There's a decent selection of restraunts and cafes covering a wide range of countries / dishes.
I walked everywhere but there are escooters all over the place which look to be preferred method of travel.
I spent a day hiking around Rangitoto Island which was enjoyable. Very interesting to be walking amongst volcanic rubble.
I went to the Sky Tower but it's not actually that tall and having just flown in, the views from the plane were far better. Also the windows on the first viewing floor were not that clean. I would not recommend the Sky Tower.
Lovely clean and very new apartments in great location. Rooms had washer and dryer and kitchenette with tea and coffee which was perfect. It had a gym but we didn't use it. Also lots of parking for $25 per night, which in Auckland prices is reasonable compared to other hotels. Staff were very helpful and friendly and gave great recommendations for food near by. We checked in late but they have a call centre that helped us with an easy check in which was perfect. Will definitely come back again.
Close to South Auckland and the Airport with generous parking. On site restaurant is good but with a limited menu options if you're staying for more than a few days. There is one local Indian takeaway otherwise have it delivered. The Yellow bus works well also as does the lounge display of flight status at Auckland Airport. It must be OK as this was my 4th visit. Beds were generous and crispy. Shower was large and hot. WIFI was fast enough for CAD files.
comfortable hotel near the airport. the hotel restaurant is pretty good if a bit overpriced, which is good since nothing else is walkable.
only frustration was their advance email said to call from the airport for a shuttle. they didn’t pick up and hold disconnected four times. took an Uber. it turns out the shuttle wasn’t free anyway, and was a separate service on a fixed schedule. would have appreciated that being communicated accurately
Good room with all the amenities we expected. The hotel is located very close to Auckland Domain, a big park with a very nice museum. Auckland city centre is a 30 min walk away, which for us was perfect as we like to do things on foot. Also, it was nice that the hotel is located in a quiet area, away from all the noise and chaos of the big city. We also enjoyed the breakfast buffet very much.
This property was VERY convenient for us as we needed to overnight (on short notice, due to flight cancellation from Vancouver) in Auckland airport area. The next morning we picked up a pre booked vehicle at OMEGA cars; an easy 10 minute walk from the hotel.
There was a "yellow bus" complimentary shuttle from Auckland airport.
TERRIFIC breakfast! Go early for best and hot selection.
Being the Travelodge I was expecting an average hotel, but it was a lot better than that. It feels new and fresh. The location was perfect for a conference at Auckland Theatre. The hotel was quiet. Parking next door (Wilsons - so not cheap) was a handy feature as it's so convenient. Highly recommend this hotel. Got a great rate for the room too making this an inexpensive option.
My mother in law wanted a get away from home with 3 of her grandkids. They enjoy the beauty of Beauty of Rose Park especially when the staff kindly treated them equally.
My family loves to stay locally and they wanted to cover every side of Auckland city from motels to Hotels. .
I will recommend Rose Park as my 9 yearnold is always the person who rate all places we have been.
I think this is the coolest hotel I have ever stayed at! When in Auckland, it would be a shame staying elsewhere.
The hotel is very, very interesting and unusual, and every little detail is very well thought of.
The bathroom and the balcony were very spacious and comfy.
Not too far from the city center.
Very comfy, convenient and trendy.
We loved it!
Good location close to Auckland Airport. Nostalgic Kiwi Bacon statue on roof. Staff member was very helpful and obliging.
24 hour checkin. Free parking. Upstairs room was quiet. Bed comfortable. Plenty of hot water in shower. Ok for a last minute booking and bed for the night close to airport after a late flight. Free parking outside.
We stayed overnight before an international flight. Couldn't fault it - very clean, bathroom looked recently renovated and had plenty of amenities. Solid room service menu. Free overnight parking. Really coudn't ask for more from an airport hotel, will definitely stay again if needed.
We would definitely recommend this place, people at the reception desk are very nice and helpful, we were even upgraded for free to better room with balcony and view to the SkyCity tover. The room were nice and clean. The hotel is walking distance to all downtown Auckland happenings.
SkyCity Hotel is in the center of everything, including the Sky Tower - which one accesses through the lobby. The rooms were large, well stocked and comfortable. The airport bus comes directly to the hotel. We would definitely stay here again on another trip to Auckland.
I got to hotel at midnight but my room was ready for me with my late check in time. If you want a cheap place near Auckland Art Museum and Univ of Auckland and want to walk to harbor, CBD, and Mt Eden, I did all of that in the same day from this location.
We were in Auckland for one night prior to our international trip. The Ocean breeze hotel is situated in a quiet area within 30 minutes of the airport in off peak times. Free parking. Great views. A little dated but a great start to our holidays
Good location in Auckland CBD - you can walk most places quite comfortably (albeit uphill back to hotel).
Clean spacious room with good WiFi.
Staff friendly and helpful with booking Airport Taxi.
I was positively surprised by the quality of the motel, given that it was very cheap. Value for money was excellent. So handy to the airport. Free parking. Spacious unit with large kitchen.
This is a typical airport hotel. It is located a few kms from the airport, and near the motorway. Easy to get to, plenty of parking, and easy access to the major routes out of Auckland.
Location to the airport, clean room, good contact before check-in and when checking in. Great parking and didn't have to pay for it like in some hotels.
